Cloud Computing- Definition, Basic, Terms, Videos, Info-graphic….

If you’ve ever browsed Youtube for videos, streamed music online, or even just sent and received e-mails, you’ve used cloud computing services. The cloud has been around us for a long time and it’s only now that we’ve started realizing its full potential.

What is Cloud Computing?

What is Cloud Computing?
While the world is getting befuddle with multiple definitions and idea around cloud computing , it become necessary to understand how is cloud computing distinct to traditional computing world today.
With changing needs in IT , cost optimization , requirements to scale up and scale down business it is important to look at avenues which can help move away from the heritage world of owning or hosting infrastructure and applications and maintaining them .
Cloud computing solves this problem by using multiple computers connected via a digital network(virtualization), as though they were one computer providing infrastructure , platform or applications as a service .Often, the services available are acknowledged part of cloud computing.

Cloud Basics
In the stone age of computing such as document editing-Ms word, Excel, etc. weren’t possible without installing software on user’s computer. We(most of  us) used to buy licence(product key) for every software from a software vendor(online or offline) to obtain right to install and use it.
But in cloud era, all changes! We don’t have to buy every software, install it and keep upgrading our hardware. We just need to have a good laptop or netbook, which can handle a good web browser(chrome, FireFox) and can handle fast internet speed. In cloud computing applications are from a server that are executed and managed by a client’s web browser, with no installed client version of an application required.
These applications are stored in cloud servers, which removes the need for version upgrades or license management on individual client computing devices.

Now lets move deep in the question: what is cloud computing?

Types of Cloud Services:

As IT specialists in firms and individual computer users start considering cost and innovation as two aspects for decision of next generation applications, which can save a lot of money by saving End-user’s investment on hardware and software. Here Cloud Computing emerged as an important solution! There are three main services offered in cloud computing.

  1. Software as a Service
  2. Platform as a Service
  3. Infrastructure as a Service

Most of the firms want to adopt Cloud Services but they are not sure from where to begin. Its good to try implementing or experimenting a technology or service which can lower your investments and increase productivity. A company should adopt these services in a particular order or with a specific reason. Here are these three adoption methods explained with reasons.

Step 1  : Software as a Service
Software as a service conclusively helps enterprise to adopt a business capacity that is currently either being served by existing applications or a new business process method that needs automation. Examples of these could be:
  • Replacing existing collaboration.
  • Messaging technologies with cloud collaboration.
  • Messaging services provided by multiple cloud vendors in marketplace today.

Step 2 : Platform as a Services
These type of services offers enterprises elasticity to test shifting their existing custom applications and migrating these to cloud platform .

Let’s take an example . Enterprise A has custom expense management system which currently is hosted on-premise on application server (Java Applications) can be ported to cloud platforms such as Google App Engine for Business taking away the need of huge infrastructure (hardware) , software (database , application server , web server) and maintenance services. Step 3 : Infrastructure as a Service

These services should be adopted as highest level of maturity of enterprise for Cloud services. These enable the enterprise to do away with on-premise hardware infrastructure with cloud provisioned computing power and storage. These services are offered by leading cloud services providers such as Amazon , Google. Watch this Youtube video: Infrastructure as a Service .
